All In The Family: The Creative Use of Play in Family Therapy

This workshop will provide a wide range of tools, activities and techniques which can be utilized in work with families to help them achieve their goals. As well, participants will learn to use effective techniques to deal with common therapeutic issues. Utilizing play in family work increases engagement, decreases resistance, and allows family members to have fun while moving towards their therapeutic goals. Play techniques and tools will focus on helping family members express feelings, communicate with each other more effectively, increase co-operation and sharing, and enhance self-regulation. Additionally, skills and techniques to terminate treatment effectively with clients will be discussed. Greg will provide a clear framework in order to plan termination as well as present concrete strategies and activities to support it being a positive process.
Greg Lubimiv graduated from Laurentian University with his B.S.W. and Later University of Toronto with his M.S.W. and is a certified Supervisor with the Canadian Association of Child and Play Therapy. Greg has been the Executive Director of The Phoenix Centre, a children’s mental health centre, situated in Pembroke, Ontario since 1981 and is well known in the field as an innovative and passionate clinician and administrator. Greg is considered one of Canada’s leading expert in many topic areas, including Play Therapy, Family Therapy, Vicarious Trauma, Reflective Practice, and Trauma. The Phoenix Centre is well known as a creative mental health centre which has been a leader in exploring new models of intervention and implementing evidence based practices. Greg is a well-known international presenter/trainer and audiences appreciate his passion, humour, energy, and ability to translate research and theory into simple and practical models, tools, and strategies.
